Culture Volunteer WM: Film Commission (CLOSED)

Culture Central are looking for a filmmaker for the Culture Volunteer WM programme.  

Culture Volunteer is a project, led by Culture Central and funded by the Volunteer Futures fund by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, delivered by Arts Council England working in partnership with Birmingham Museums Trust, Creative Black Country, Stoke Creates and Open Theatre to deliver regional and place-based, volunteering and development opportunities.  

The Culture Volunteer project is a regional partnership project which responds to the needs of people in their place, creating opportunities to develop new skills, meet and connect with new people and enjoy the significant benefits of taking part in cultural volunteering. We are working with arts, cultural and heritage organisations, to ensure their volunteering offer is as wide and inclusive as possible, supporting them to attract new volunteers to their organisations and projects. 

The Culture Volunteer programme also includes an access champion programme to support organisations to create more accessible volunteering opportunities as well as a regional training programme for volunteers and those who work with volunteers. 

Brief 

We are looking for a filmmaker to deliver the following:  

  • 4 x 5 minute films that will document each partner’s Culture Volunteer activity, capture feedback and evaluation from partners and participants and be a recruitment tool for volunteers and cultural organisations.  

  • 1 overarching film (5-7 minutes) to capture the overall activity and impact of the programme.  

  • Liaison and management of local partners to agree content, location, timings and participants.  

The films need to be engaging, positive and a creative representation of the programme and its participants.   
All films will need subtitles and travel to project locations in Birmingham, Stoke on Trent and Wolverhampton will be required.

15th November 2023 (10am) Deadline for submissions 

17th November 2023 Commission awarded 

20th November – 15th December 2023 Filming (must be available to film access champion training on 22nd November) 

31st January 2023 Final film delivered  

Fee available  

£7,500 - £10,000 inclusive of VAT where charged, travel and expenses

Background

Volunteering Futures is a pilot project that aims to provide more opportunities for people to volunteer in the arts, creative and cultural sector and will run until the end of March 2024 and during that time will:    

  • Increase the number and range of quality volunteering opportunities in arts and cultural organisations, and make more people aware of them 

  • Open the doors to people who may face barriers to volunteering and make it possible for them to get involved.  

  • Give Arts and Cultural organisations the knowledge, skills, and resources to manage a quality and engaging volunteer experience now and in the future.  

Culture Central is working in partnership with Birmingham Museums Trust, Creative Black Country, Stoke Creates and Open Theatre to deliver the Culture Volunteer project, as part of Volunteering Futures which is funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports, delivered by Arts Council England.
