Could you deliver a workshop for young artists and creatives?
Following the success of the third West Midlands Weekender in September, which showcased 26 young creative individuals/companies/collectives and their work exploring the theme of Democratising Creativity and Culture (watch here), we heard many young creatives ask for more opportunities to connect, informally network and up-skill.
We also recognise that structural inequalities, long embedded in society, has meant that for certain groups and or individuals, access to training and skills development has been difficult or non-existent in some instances. Again, we acknowledge this and recognise that we ALL have a responsibility to make a change!
In an effort to take the first steps, Culture Central are offering West Midlands based* young creatives the chance to take part in a series of FREE workshops, delivered by regional creative organisations/groups/individuals who have a broad range of experiences working in the sector. These online workshops will take place between 23rd-28th November 2020 (times to be confirmed).
We have asked young artists and creatives what would be most useful for them, and this research has informed the themes of the suggested workshops listed below.
Know your worth and put yourself out there – exploring combating imposter syndrome; getting people to take you and your work seriously; best way to sell oneself (also looking at digital applications and Zoom interviews); marketing oneself.
Networking 101 – connecting with older and or more experienced people in the sector; effective networking and taking on the right opportunities; how to make networking fun, informative and engaging; getting feedback on creative ideas (pitching).
Where’s the money at? – how to make money in the creative industry; how to apply for grants (language); where to find grants and opportunities.
The Creative Nomad – being versatile and adaptable – freelancing, transferring creative skills to other sectors.
Managing your own projects – PR; marketing; video content creation; social media management; producing.
We are now looking for people to deliver workshops on these themes. If you are either:
- A funded organisation/collective/individual and you have the capacity and experience to offer your time in-kind to deliver one of the listed workshops below
- A workshop facilitator with experience and expertise in one of the suggested workshop themes – but are not being funded at present, we are able to offer two paid positions at a £250.00 flat rate (preparation and delivery)
If selected you will be informed by 9am, Monday 16th November 2020.
