Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the More Than A Moment initiative so far, either by contributing to Elizabeth Lawal’s online research, or attending or contributing to the Radical Listening sessions held during late July and early August.
We acknowledge the emotional labour that this involved for the Black artists who shared their experiences, and we sincerely thank everyone who was able to contribute to this vital and urgent work.
We have now moved into Phase Four of this initiative, in which the More Than A Moment working group is using the findings from the research, and the feedback and learnings from the Radical Listening sessions, to design a draft pledge for the region’s arts and cultural sector to move forward with.
We will shortly be announcing a further closed session for Black artists and members of the Black creative workforce to feedback on the draft pledge, and an update session with leaders of cultural organisations, before the pledge is launched in September. This will include a model for accountability, and will be the beginning of the West Midlands arts and culture sector implementing genuine action, and monitoring progress towards meaningful and long-term change.
More details to follow soon.
