Culture in Libraries: How do we better connect and collaborate?

Join our October WMCRU session – led by Lucy Carlton-Walker, Creative Director for Warwickshire Libraries with colleagues from Solihull and Staffordshire library services – to hear about the current priorities and plans for libraries; and all the work they do in place.

This session will also focus on how Warwickshire Libraires has developed and is delivering its creative programme – as the only Arts Council funded library National Portfolio Organisation in the West Midlands.

You’ll understand more about how library services operate, what actitivites they deliver and how to develop and build partnerships between cultural organisations, artists and library services.

Lucy Carlton-Walker has worked across the arts and cultural sector in a range of strategic learning, engagement and partnership development roles for libraries, museums, galleries, and heritage sites, and is passionate about cultural education and social justice. Lucy is currently the Creative Director for the Warwickshire Libraries National Portfolio Organisation (NPO), which is funded by Arts Council England, it’s the only library NPO in the West Midlands and 1 of 16 nationally. Lucy believes passionately in the power of partnerships and the impact that working collaboratively can have, as collective movement empowers the creative development of the lives of children, young people, and communities.

About WMCRU

Set up during COVID, our regular West Midlands Culture Response Unit (WMCRU) meetings were a vital lifeline for the sector in connecting, sharing and getting practical information and advice. WMCRU has continued to be a useful space for organisations and individuals that Culture Central continues to support as a collective and collaborative space for all those that are interested in the cultural ecology of the region. In 2024-25, WMCRU meetings will explore key strategic challenges and opportunities that affect the sector and the region.
