The More Than A Moment pledge is the West Midlands Arts sector’s promise to take radical, bold and immediate action, to dismantle the systems that have for too long kept Black artists and creatives from achieving their potential in the arts and cultural industries.
Organisations who sign up to the pledge, wholeheartedly commit to ensuring equity, investment in, and opportunities with and for Black artists and creatives within their organisation’s culture and work, and in doing so, becoming the change we all need to see.
This pledge and process was designed and created in Summer and Autumn 2020 by the More Than a Moment Working Group, in partnership with the Black Creative Workforce and West Midlands Cultural Sector, to be a promise for radical and permanent change. It was launched on 29 October 2020.
We acknowledge and thank all of the Black Creative Workforce for their time, honesty and emotional labour in contributing to meetings and the Radically Listening research.
We understand that it may take a little time to gain Board approval for your organisation to sign up to the Pledge. If you are committed to signing up but need time for Board approval, please let us know and we will add your organisation to the above list of organisations signed up in principle.
We want to thank all the Black artists, creatives and professionals who put themselves forward - from filling in the radical listening survey, contributing to the sessions; and spending hours working with us, shaping the pledge to ensure this was right for Black people, Black artists, creatives and professionals. More than 100 people were actively involved in this part of process, including Adaya Henry, Albert Wallace, Clancy Williams, Gabriella Gay, Jamaal O'Driscoll, Leon Phillips, Marika Beckford, Natalie Edward-Yesufu, Sindy Campbell Tamar Dixon and Tyrone Huggins.
The research, pledge and any other supporting documents and materials are free to use for individuals and organisations in the West Midlands Cultural Sector and under a Creative Commons License, however, if you wish to use this for commercial purposes, please contact info@culturecentral.co.uk
